Daniel Marciano has designed and built furniture for clients in New York, Boston, Seattle and Japan since 1990. He now operates a one-man studio in Ottawa, Ontario specializing in high quality custom furniture.
In 1993, Daniel worked with a chairmaker in Nagano, Japan. The work centred on the use of sharp hand tools to shape and polish curved surfaces in wood. His current designs draw from such experiences, particularly regarding the subtle qualities of natural materials and an object’s expression of “space”. Both the volume that a piece occupies and the space that furniture structures, create openings that give the eye a place to dwell. He also took in the aesthetic lessons of Japanese interior architecture and space; the subtle interplay of structural parts to the whole and the inspiring beauty of natural materials. Simply put, his work balances the way furniture relates to the living space.
